Patient results information

Under the Uniform Health Care Information Act, you may request in writing to see, copy and/or correct your reports and films. Written parental consent is required for the release of non-pregnancy related information of a minor child. We will not disclose your records to others unless you direct us in writing to do so or unless the law compels us to do so. Depending on the nature of request, copy charges and a waiting period may be applicable.

How will I get my results?

As part of our focus on responsive service, the Carol Milgard Breast Center is committed to fast turnaround times between screening and diagnosis so that you’ll have the peace of mind knowing you won’t have to wait long for your results.

A board certified radiologist will carefully review your imaging study or procedure then forward a report to your doctor or health care provider within two working days. It is our goal to contact our clients personally if additional views or tests are needed. You will also receive a letter by mail informing you of your results, as well as further test requests. Significant findings are generally phoned to the referring doctor prior to transcription of the report so that treatment planning with the patient may begin as soon as possible. Some referring physicians request to see the images as part of their treatment planning with the patient and we will make the images available to them.

Due to the Uniform Health Care Information Act, it is also required that you provide us with written or verbal permission to release your records (including any images) to your spouse or other family member.

In the circumstance of a special procedure, such as biopsy, radiologists work closely with your physician or health care provider. Your results are reported directly to the referring clinician.

It is important to consult with your doctor or health care provider after any examination or procedure. These results will be compared with your overall health status, which only your physician or practitioner can assess
for you.

How can I get a copy of my report or films?

Contact the Carol Milgard Breast Center at 253-759-2622 to request your reports or films. Records request need a 24 hour advance notice.

What about my breast biopsy results?

Your physician will receive radiology and pathology reports within three working days of your procedure. At that point, your physician will discuss your results and options with you. Evaluation of an abnormality does not end with a biopsy. Clinical follow up is crucial. Depending on results, options may include follow up mammography in six to twelve months, breast MRI, ultrasound or a repeat biopsy.

The Center maintains a record of the imaging and biopsy services we provide you. You may make a written request to see, copy or correct your records and/or images. The Center will not release records unless you provide written authorization or the law requires us to do so.
A note about mammography results

In April 1999, it became law that ALL patients receiving mammograms be informed by a standardized letter for the results of their mammogram examination(s) in layman’s terms. This letter is based on a medical report, which is forwarded to your health care provider. If you have already received communication from your health care provider and/or responded to the recommendations from The Center concerning this result, you should disregard the letter. If you have further questions concerning results and/recommendations please contact your health care provider.
