After Your Exam

What to expect after a breast biopsy

You may resume your normal activities after your procedure. If you have taken a sedative during the biopsy, you must have a driver take you home.

Following image-guided needle biopsies, needle sites are bandaged with a steri-strip and gauze pads. We recommend keeping the puncture site clean and dry for 72 hours after the procedure. The day of your exam you should avoid strenuous activity for the entire day. You will be asked to place an ice pack on your breast for 2- minutes every hour until bedtime. Normal activities may resume the following day.
