CORONAVIRUS AND OTHER RESPIRATORY DISEASES
Updated: 5/8/2020 2:00pm
At the Carol Milgard Breast Center, providing safe, high quality care is our #1 priority. In response to the continued spread of the coronavirus, we want to assure you that our facility will remain open and will be taking extra precautions to safeguard against the spread of this disease. We have implemented deeper cleaning, patient screening and a social distancing protocol.
SCHEDULING – At scheduling, patients will be asked if they have tested positive or are under evaluation for COVID-19 exposure. If they answer yes, they will be directed to a higher acuity medical center.
IMAGING CENTER – We are screening patients and visitors at our imaging centers. If they are experiencing fever, cough and other respiratory symptoms they will be asked to reschedule their appointment for a later date. If PPE supply chains become an issue, we may no longer be able to safely care for these patients.
REFERRING CLINICIANS AND STAFF – If you are referring a patient for imaging who is being evaluated for COVID-19, please refer them to higher acuity medical centers equipped to isolate and contain the spread of this disease. If they are not being evaluated for COVID-19 specifically, but are currently displaying upper respiratory symptoms or fever, please notify our imaging center staff so appropriate precautions can be taken proactively upon the patient’s arrival.
APPROPRIATE IMAGING OF COVID-19
The American College of Radiology has issued a statement regarding the appropriate use of CT and X-ray for imaging patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19: https://www.acr.org/Advocacy-and-Economics/ACR-Position-Statements/Recommendations-for-Chest-Radiography-and-CT-for-Suspected-COVID19-Infection
Specifically, the ACR recommends AGAINST routine use of imaging for screening or primary diagnosis of COVID-19, primarily due to the nonspecific imaging appearance and the potential for infection control issues in imaging departments.
We are postponing our educational luncheon series on Clinical Decision Support. We think the information is valuable to you and your staff and will reschedule these at a later date.
We understand that clinics and facilities are restricting access to visitors and representatives. We want to make sure we keep you informed of any service changes or patient restrictions as soon as possible. Please provide us with the best point of contact in your clinic and their preferred contact information by submitting the following form. You can fax this form to us at 253-680-3557.
