Carol Milgard Breast Center and Tacoma Rainiers join forces in the fight against breast cancer
TACOMA, Wash.—In addition to playing baseball last Sunday, May 8, the Tacoma Rainiers went to bat for the Carol Milgard Breast Center by sponsoring a fundraiser benefit game called “Pink at the Park” to promote heightened awareness for annual mammograms and to raise money to provide breast cancer screening services at the Carol Milgard Breast Center for Tacoma’s underserved women.
The Tacoma Rainiers played the Mother’s Day game wearing pink baseball jerseys to celebrate the fight against breast cancer, and post game, their fans bid on their favorite player’s autographed jersey during a live Pink Jersey Benefit Auction. The proceeds received from this auction will provide underserved Tacoma women the ability to receive a free screening mammogram at the Carol Milgard Breast Center.
Breast cancer survivors and community women’s health groups attending the benefit game donned pink in support of breast cancer awareness. The unveiling of a heartfelt Carol Milgard Breast Center patient story about her breast cancer diagnosis experience captured the crowd’s attention and alerted them to the importance of early detection that only an annual screening mammogram can provide.
Khai Tran, M.D., Medical Director of the Carol Milgard Breast Center explains, “Yearly mammograms are recommended by the American Cancer Society and the Carol Milgard Breast Center for all women beginning at age 40. The breast center is able to fulfill our important mission of providing Tacoma’s underserved women comprehensive breast health services through generous philanthropic donations and our many partners’ contributions.”
“Tacoma Rainiers ‘Pink Day’ is a perfect community event to elevate the awareness about the importance of annual screening mammograms and to raise the needed funding to support mammography services for our community’s underserved women,” says Jacquelyn Ostrom, Executive Director of the Carol Milgard Breast Center.
