Breast Cancer Resource Center closure

TACOMA, Wash.—With the recent closure of the Breast Cancer Resource Center, many patients have questions about where services may be found. We have outlined resources for similar services offered by other organizations, so that a continuum of care is provided for patients in our community.

EARLY DETECTION VOUCHER PROGRAM


This program will now be offered by the Carol Milgard Breast Center. Medically underserved patients—women under the age of 35 or men of any age—who are experiencing breast problems and in need of breast imaging services should contact Jackie Ostrom, Executive Director: call (253) 680-3621 or click here to send an email.

BRAS, PROSTHETICS, WIGS & HEAD COVERINGS

  • American Cancer Society’s Cancer Resource Center at St. Joseph Medical Center. Wig program open to all cancer patients in the community. This program also supplies scarves and hats for cancer patients.

    Free for mastectomy patients, these prosthetic breasts are placed inside a bra, and are lighter and more comfortable than silicone prosthetic breasts. Call (253) 944-4176.
  • MultiCare Healthy Reflections in Gig Harbor and at Tacoma General.
    With a staff who is certified in bra and prosthetics fittings, the boutique offers a variety of products for patients who are recently diagnosed, going through treatment or in recovery. Call (253) 530-8118.

The support group’s mission is to provide a safe, comforting environment for spiritual, emotional, sisterly and brotherly support for people diagnosed with cancer.
