Affordable Care Act

The Affordable Care Act went into effect on January 1, 2014, and all individuals are now required to have health insurance. This is a national effort created to ensure that everyone has access to health care, regardless of financial circumstances, even if they are sick or have a prior health issue.

Under the Affordable Care Act, screening mammography will be covered under preventive care.

Notice to Washington HealthPlanFinder Customers

The following Washington Healthplanfinder customers may enroll year-round:

  • Those who qualify for or are renewing Washington Apple Health (Medicaid) coverage
  • American Indians/Alaskan Natives and Indians eligible for services through an Indian health care provider
  • Those enrolling in the Small Business Health Options Program offered in Clark and Cowlitz counties

If you missed the open enrollment period you will need to wait until the next enrollment period to apply. But if you experience certain life events outside of open enrollment you could qualify for a special enrollment period. See if you qualify here.

Certain life events including but not limited to getting married, having a child, moving to a new area or losing health coverage may qualify you for a Special Enrollment period. If you‘re an existing customer, you can report a change through your Washington Healthplanfinder account. If you‘re a new customer, you can apply now to check if you qualify. If you qualify you can can apply and enroll in Apple Health (WA state Medicaid program) any time of year.
