Pink at the Park: CMBC and Tacoma Rainiers Team up for a Ball Game

Carol Milgard Breast Center and the Tacoma Rainiers wanna take you out to the ballgame. Now in its sixth year, CMBCs annual Pink at the Park benefit game is scheduled at Cheney Stadium, rain or shine, for Sunday, July 22 at 1:35 p.m.

All bases are loaded for a fun-filled afternoon of hometown baseball and family-friendly events, culminating in a charity baseball game. All proceeds for this game between the Salt Lake City Bees and Tacoma Rainiers support a worthy cause: funding mammogram screenings for underserved women in the South Sound community. Last year more than 7,000 season ticket holders and Cracker Jack-loving fans raised a whopping $22,000 for their friends and neighbors.

The winning bidder of live auction jerseys will have a chance to get their jersey autographed and snap a photo with players. The silent auction includes sports-themed baskets with memorabilia and game tickets from local professional sports teams. The silent auction is held online and bidding closes at the seventh inning of the game; the live auction is held immediately at the end of the game by the Rainiers dugout. If you love the Rainiers or feel compelled by the cause, participate in silent and live auctions for game day-only Rainiers’ jerseys (done up all in hot pink to show their support!) and other fun items, all with proceeds benefiting the Carol Milgard Breast Center.

“Is it corny to say,” jokes Barbara Fox, Executive Assistant at Carol Milgard, “that we would love to hit a ‘home run’ with this year’s fundraising?”

CMBC will host a handful of other tertiary events to keep game day moving and grooving. There’s a poster table before the start of the game for anyone who wants to stop by. The Rainiers will have a photobooth for families and friends to take fun pics commemorating this once-a-year event. Be sure to bring your appetite: food vendors at the stadium have all sorts of delicious food available for purchase. For those who purchase tickets from CMBC, a “ballpark” meal is included in the price of the ticket: that’s a ballpark frank, beverage and a bag of chips.

Barbara explains there are plenty of great reasons to attend this year’s event, whether you’re a fan of the sport or not. This game is a great opportunity to have fun while fundraising for a good cause, celebrate and honor cancer survivors, and – of course – root for your hometown baseball team! And, if you’ve been to one of Carol Milgard Breast Center’s Pink at the Park games before, you’ll be happy to see some fresh swag on offer to commemorate this special day.

Pre-game activities honoring breast cancer survivors will start at approximately 1:00 p.m. with the Circle of Hope. Here, breast cancer survivors and their loved ones go out on to the baseball field, standing together around the pitcher’s mound, to symbolize the spirit of their journey.“In addition to our Pink at the Park tees, we will have baseball caps, bandanas, bracelets, and other fun items available,” says Barbara.

“This year our first pitch is being thrown by an 11-year-old boy who recently donated $1,200 to the breast center with his Save More Mamas with Breast Cancer fundraiser,” adds Barbara.

In addition to game-goers who hold season tickets, CMBC will be selling 500 tickets to folks looking to get out and take in a game for a good cause. Admission is $10. To snag yours today, visit CMBC’s 2018 Pink at the Park event page.
