Rainiers Partner With Carol Milgard Breast Center For ‘Pink At The Park’

TACOMA, Wash. — The Tacoma Rainiers, in partnership with Carol Milgard Breast Center (CMBC), are proud to announce the details of the sixth annual ‘Pink at the Park’ event this Sunday, July 17 at Cheney Stadium.

‘Pink at the Park’ is the product of a long-running relationship between the Rainiers and CMBC, and ultimately serves as an avenue devoted to raising money to fund mammogram screenings for medically underserved women in the South Sound region.

“We are grateful to the Tacoma Rainiers for the six year collaboration we have enjoyed with them,” Carol Milgard Breast Center Executive Director Jackie Ostrom said. “Thanks to the funding from this annual community event, the breast center is able to do two important things: raise awareness about breast cancer detection, and underwrite screening mammograms for patients with financial need.”

This year’s ‘Pink at the Park’ event begins at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, when the Cheney Stadium gates open for the Rainiers inter-conference matchup between the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. The first 3,000 fans through the gates will receive a free pair of pink sunglasses, courtesy of CMBC.

Pregame activities continue with video testimonials from a patient who has successfully battled and defeated breast cancer and the formation of the ‘Circle of Hope’. This year will also feature videos about the CMBC Bridging Care Program. The program streamlines the delivery of breast biopsy results to patients and bridges the gap between diagnosis and subsequent breast cancer treatment. This ensures high-quality standard of care for patients diagnosed with breast cancer.

Pink specialty jerseys worn by Rainiers players and coaches during the game will be autographed and auctioned off as part of a live auction held along the third base line of the field immediately following the conclusion of the game, as well as through a silent auction on the Cheney Stadium concourse during the game. Proceeds from the auction will go directly to CMBC in support of the organization’s continued efforts to provide sustainable breast health services for all women in the region.

“At CMBC, we recommend a screening mammography at age 40, and it is equally important that screenings be done yearly,” Medical Director Khai Tran, M.D. said. “Early detection saves lives.”
